A New Year for Goals That Stick

A New Year for Goals That Stick

Every January, we set goals with the best intentions, healthier habits, stronger routines, and better outcomes. But as the year unfolds, many resolutions fade. For individuals trying to quit nicotine, this can be especially true. Nicotine addiction is powerful, and willpower alone is rarely enough.

At the Tobacco Free York County Coalition (TFYCC), we believe the most powerful goals are the ones that stick, the goals rooted in community, supported by policy, and sustained through collective action. That includes supporting people who want to quit nicotine, while also preventing the next generation from ever starting.

Creating a healthier York County free from the harms of commercial tobacco products requires more than short-term commitments. It takes long-term vision, consistent effort, and shared responsibility.

What Makes a Goal Stick?

Goals are more likely to last when they are:

  • Clear – focused on prevention, protection, health equity, and recovery
  • Supported – reinforced by education, policy, community norms, and cessation resources
  • Collective – carried by partners, leaders, residents, and systems working together

TFYCC’s work is built on these principles. Rather than relying on individual willpower alone, we focus on creating environments where the healthy choice is the easy choice, whether that means helping someone quit nicotine or protecting youth from exposure in the first place.

Turning Resolutions Into Results

This year, TFYCC is committed to goals that create lasting impact:

  • Protecting youth from emerging nicotine products and targeted marketing
  • Advancing tobacco-free policies that promote safe, healthy public spaces
  • Supporting access to evidence-based cessation resources for those ready to quit
  • Equipping decision-makers with data-driven, community-informed tools
  • Strengthening partnerships that turn awareness into action

These aren’t goals for a single month; they are goals designed to shape the future of York County and support people at every stage, from prevention to quitting to long-term health.

Community Goals Outlast Individual Resolutions

When communities set goals together, progress doesn’t disappear when motivation fades. Tobacco-free policies, prevention education, and access to cessation support remain in place long after the New Year excitement settles. That’s how real change happens, step by step, policy by policy, conversation by conversation.

Make Your Goals Count This Year

As we enter this new year, we invite our partners and community members to think beyond resolutions and toward impact. Whether your goal is to quit nicotine, support someone who is trying, protect youth, or advocate for healthier environments, your role matters.

At TFYCC, our goal is simple and lasting: a healthier York County where people are supported in quitting nicotine and the next generation can grow up free from nicotine addiction. Together, we can set goals that don’t just start strong, but stick.
